In response, the Chief Information Officer from the Ministry and from each of BC's regional health
authorities started working together to coordinate their efforts and e-health initiatives.
A Health CIO Council has been established.
The Council meets regularly to identify, prioritize and coordinate the various technology initiatives in BC's
public health care system. The Council has developed
A Strategic Plan for Health Information Management in British Columbia 2002/03 - 2006/07 to define how health
information management can help achieve our health system's goals and objectives over the next five years.
healthnetBC is the source for information and standards on developing the provincial
Electronic Health Record. This enables the secure sharing of integrated
health information to improve patient care, reduce duplication of services,
and enhance management and planning for health service delivery.
